Kind-Hearted Teachers Offer Online Language Classes for a Cause

A kind-hearted teacher from Cebu, Philippines, initiated "Book a Class for a Cause," a short online language learning program aimed at helping unfortunate families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nice Ann Teleron, a Cebuano English teacher currently working in Asturias, Spain, started the initiative in late May as a way to collect donations for affected families in Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines, and other areas as well.

The program offered online language lessons in English, Cebuano, and Tagalog/Filipino at a minimal cost, and the proceeds will be used to buy essential items and food packs for the less fortunate.

In her post, Nice also urged other teachers to volunteer for her cause.

Other volunteer teachers pitch in to help

Less than a month after the launch of Book a Class for a Cause, other teachers joined in to help, significantly expanding the coverage of the donation drive to other areas in Cebu.

Maricor Arbiol (Ming Mamu) is currently offering a week-long English/Cebuano/Tagalog online class to help families in Cogon Pardo, Cebu

Another colleague from the United States, Mitchell English, is also offering online Spanish classes in support of Black Lives Matter.

Updates to the donation drive

As of this writing, Book a Class for a Cause has amassed an undisclosed amount of donations, which have been used to distribute "lockdown" relief goods to the aforementioned areas in Cebu.

Since both Nice and Maricor are currently based in Spain, they have coordinated with their families in Cebu to head the donation drive.

Truly, the world is without a lack of kind-hearted individuals who would go out of their way to help people in need.

If you are a teacher who would like to help, or if you're someone who would like to share your language skills to others, contact Book a Class for a Cause on Facebook to learn more.
